Tane Mahuta
About
Tane Mahuta – Secluded away in Waipoua Forest, New Zealand’s most famous tree certainly lives up to its name of Lord of the Forest, and nothing is more awe-inspiring than the sight of this mighty tree towering high above you.
Named after the Maori God of the forest, Tane Mahuta is the world's largest living Kauri tree, and thought to be about 2000 years old.
Nearly 18 metres to the first branch and 4.4 metres in diameter, Tane Mahuta is rightly called 'The Lord of the Forest'. It’s hard to believe that giant trees like this once covered the entire region before the kauri loggers and gum diggers arrived.
Don’t miss your chance to see a piece of living history.
